    Thank you for your interest in "The Carolina Campaign" - the 161st Anniversary of the Skirmish at Gamble's Hotel. In addition to the Battle Reenactments at 1 PM each day, guests will be able to visit modern vendors & food vendors, period Sutlers (stores/merchants), living history displays and demonstrations throughout the day, camps of the Confederate and Federal troops as well as Southern Civilians, artillery and infantry demonstrations, a period church service on Sunday, and much more. The event offers an immersive and hands on experience for our guests into the daily lives of those who lived through the 1860's.

Date & Times.
        Saturday, March 28th, 2026 - 10 AM to 5 PM (Battle at 1 PM)
        Sunday, March 29th, 2026 - 10 AM to 3 PM (Battle at 1 PM)

Admission & Tickets. CASH OR CHECK ONLY - Admission includes parking, all day access to the military and living history camps, as well as all programs during the event. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Gate. There are no advanced ticket sales; and no refunds.

What to Bring. Be sure and bring a folding chair or blankets to sit on, and comfortable walking shoes.

Food. There will be vendors on site selling a variety of food.

Inclement Weather. The event will be held rain or shine.


Rules & Restrictions

  • Liability Waiver. This is an at your own risk event, and attendees/participants assume all risk of participating/attending any of the events or activities in, and around, "The Carolina Campaign." Neither Harwell Farms, the Palmetto Riflemen, Anderson's Battery or its staff, employees, etc., are responsible for any injury, illness, death, damage or loss of property in connection with the event.
  • No Pets or Animals (No exceptions).
  • No coolers.
  • No drones.
  • No four-wheelers, golf carts, etc.
  • No alchol, illegal or controlled substances.
  • No public solicitation or selling of goods, except by those pre-registered sutlers and vendors.
  • Photography. Audio & Visual recordings for personal use are permitted. None will be permitted for commercial use. This is a public event, and by your attendance, you agree that visual recordings or you, your family or other guests are subject to future use by the event and event hosts.
  • Remember that we are all guests and should be mindful of our actions. This event is being held on private land, and they are trusting us to be respectful of the site. Obey all of the posted speed limits in the area, pick up all trash, and be sure that your actions are those that you would want to take place on your own land.

        "The Carolina Campaign" is being held at the Historic Johnson-Rankin House (known as the Columns Plantation) at 4789 East Old Marion Highway, Florence, South Carolina. Conveniently located near the intersection of interstate's I-95 and I-20, about 25 miles below the North Carolina state line.

        From Florence. Take Hwy. 76 east past the Florence Airport. Turn left at the Flea Market on Hwy. 327. Turn right onto East Old Marion Hwy. About two (2) miles down this road you will turn left into Rankin Plantation. Signs should be visible. The house and camp are visible from the road. If you see the Mars Bluff Feed & Seed store on your left, then you have missed the site.

        From North, South or West. Traveling on Interstate I-95, take Exit #170 and take Hwy. 327 South. Go past the Country Club Of South Carolina (on your left) and turn left at the stop light onto East Old Marion Hwy. About two (2) miles down, turn left into Rankin Plantation. Signs should be apparent. The house and camp are visible from the road. If you see the Mars Bluff Feed & Seed store on your left, then you missed us.

        From the East (Myrtle Beach area). Coming from the North on Hwy. 22 you will take you to Hwy. 501 at Aynor. From the south end, Hwy. 544 will take you to Hwy. 501 at Conway. Take Hwy. 501 towards Florence and stay on the four-lane highway when it becomes Hwy. 576. Take Hwy. 576 towards Florence, where it will become Hwy. 76 after a short time. Take Hwy 76. for about twenty (20) miles. Take a right on East Old Marion Hwy. There is a stop light with a Marquette convenience Store, McDonald's, etc., on the right. Go three and a half (3.5) miles, you will pass Roche Pharmaceutical on your right. Slow down when you see the Mars Bluff Feed & Seed store on the right, and the entrance to Rankin Plantation is the next right about fifty (50) yards further down.
