July 1862 to July 1864: 3rd Military District of South Carolina, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida
July 1864 to January 1865: McLaw's Division, Department of South Carolina, Georgia & Florida
July 19th, 1862: The Eight (8th) South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Battalion is increased by the addition of three companies and reorganized as the Third (3rd) South Carolina Volunteer Cavalry Regiment.
August 1862 to November 1864: Served in the defense of Coastal South Carolina & Georgia.
October 22nd & 23rd, 1862: Engaged at Coosawhatchie, South Carolina.
June 4th, 1863: Companies A, B & G are engaged in resisting the Federal expedition to Bluffton, South Carolina.
December 28th, 1863: Engaged at John's Island, South Carolina.
August 17th, 1864: Company F was engaged at South Newport, Georgia. ...when the company was surprised about eleven o'clock at night by the
enemy and the Bvt. Sec. Lt. and one Sergt. and twenty-six Pvts was taken prisoners by them. The balance of the company retired in few days
afterwards and collected the hoses of the company and reported to Col. Wood at No. 3 Savannah and Gulf Railroad . . . The enemy captured all
of our company books and papers and thirty-six rifles, and sixty-nine sabers and belts, thirty-one gun slings, fifty-two cartridge boxes and cap boxes
and belts, five thousand nine hundred Enfield cartridges, two thousand eight-hundred and seventy-five army caps, sixty-five canteens, and the same
number of haversacks, etc., saddles, 33 bridles, 56 halters."
November to December 1864: Served in the Defense of Savannah, Georgia.
November 30th, 1864: Companies E, I, K & a detachment of Company C are engaged at Honey Hill, South Carolina.
January to May 1865: Served in the Carolina's Campaign.
April 26th, 1865: Surrendered as part of the Army of Tennessee at Durham Station, North Carolina.
