BATTERY TIMELINE
August 1861: The battery is organized and enrolled at Cheraw, Chesterfield District, South Carolina.
August 25th, 1861: The battery is mustered into State service at Columbia, South Carolina, for twelve months' service.
August to October 1861: In camp, and undergoing instruction, at Camp Butler near Aiken, South Carolina.
October 11th, 1861: The battery is mustered into Confederate States service at Camp Butler near Aiken, South Carolina, by Colonel James Jones, 14th S.C. Volunteer Infantry Regiment, for the duration of the war.
October to November 1861: In camp at Florence, South Carolina.
November 15th, 1861: The battery moves from Florence, South Carolina, to Pig Point, Virginia.
November 1861 to May 1862: Served on duty, and in camp, at Pig Point near Norfolk, Virginia.
May 10th, 1862: The Battery is withdrawn from Pig Point and moves to Petersburg, Virginia.
May to October 1862: In camp, and on duty, at Fort Clifton near Petersburg, Virginia.
January 25th, 1863: Engaged in the skirmish at Kelly's Store, Virginia.
January 30th, 1863: Engaged in the battle at Kelly's Store, Virginia.
February to April 1863: In camp, and on duty, at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia.
April to May 1863: Served in the Suffolk Campaign (Virginia).
May 1863: In camp on the Black Water Road near Franklin, Virginia.
July to September 1863: In camp near Petersburg, Virginia.
August to October 1863: 1 Section is detailed to duty at Weldon, North Carolina.
September to December 1863: In camp, and on duty, at Camp Hood near Drewry's Bluff, Virginia.
January 1864 to February 1865: In camp, and on duty, at Camp Whiting near Kinston, North Carolina; during this time the battery was armed with two 12-pnd. Napoleons, and two 12-pnd. howitzers.
October 1864 to February 1865: 1 Section, with forty-men, is detailed with two-guns to duty at Petersburg, Virginia.
February 1865: 1 Section, with a detachment of twenty-five men under Lieutenant W.A. Evans, is detailed to Goldsboro, North Carolina.
June 1864 to March 1865: 1 Section of the Battery, consisting of two Napoleons, served in the defense of Richmond & Petersburg, Virginia.
February to April 1865: Served in the Carolina's Campaign.
March 10th, 1865: Engaged in a battle in North Carolina.
April 26th, 1865: Surrendered with the Army of Tennessee at Durham Station, North Carolina.
May 1st, 1865: The Battery, under Captain Kelly, is paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, numbering ninety-five officers and men.
