Enrolled and was mustered into service as a Battalion Adjutant, with the rank of First Lieutenant, of the Third Battalion of the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Regiment on December 16th, 1861, for three years' service; resigned his commission on April 17th, 1862.
