REENACTOR/PARTICIPANT RULES & REGULATIONS
The following Rules & Regulations are to be respected by all participants of "The Carolina Campaign" while present at the event; any person found failing to comply with these shall be subject to removal from the event. GENERAL RULES & GUIDELINES
- I understand that the Palmetto Riflemen, Anderson's Battery, the property owner (Harwell Farms), and their employees and representatives, are in no way responsible for any injury, dismemberment, disability, death incurred, or personal property lost, stolen, or damaged connected to, or, during the activities I attend at the "The Carolina Campaign " event from March 27th to 29th, 2026. I will hold harmless the Palmetto Riflemen, Anderson's Battery, the property owner, their employees and representatives, in relation to any loss, damage, injury, death, or other consequence of my participation.
- We are all guests, be mindful of your actions. This event is being held on private land and a historic site, and they trust us to be respectful. Obey all posted speed limits, pick up all trash, and be sure that you and your comrades' actions are those that you would want to take place on your own land.
- All rules are subject to clarification and interpretation by the event hosts whose decision is final, and violators may be subject to expulsion from the site, individually or as a unit.
- VEHICLES & PARKING. Participants will be given a suitable amount of time to unload before vehicles have to be out of the area. No vehicles will be allowed in camps from 6 AM Saturday to 2 PM Sunday; no vehicles will be permitted to remain in camp.
- MOTORIZED VEHICLES. No golf carts, four-wheelers, scooters, or any other form of motorized vehicles are permitted onsite; there will be no exceptions.
- PETS & ANIMALS. NO PETS are allowed for either participants, vendors, or the public.
- NO MODERN POLITICS. Anything that took place after February 1865 is off limits - no modern politics, social media debates, etc. Let's all try and enjoy being in a different place and time.
- MINORS. No person under the age of fourteen (14) will be allowed to participate in any battlefield function without a parent or legal guardian present and accompanying them during the event. No one under the age of thirteen (13) may take the field in any capacity.
- ALCHOOL. The possession and consumption of any alcoholic beverage is prohibited at the event. Any excessive alcohol consumption and resultant obnoxious behavior will result in the offender being asked to leave the event.
- ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES. No illegal drugs or substances are permitted. If you are found in possession of any you will be ejected from the event and law enforcement will be notified.
- ELECTRONIC DEVICES. All cell phones, cameras, or other electronic devices should be kept out of sight of the public at all times; unless in an emergency situation.
- PHOTOGRAPHY. No commercial reproduction (audio, visual, or otherwise) of the events various activities may be made without the expressed written consent of the event organizers.
- The event hosts are not responsible for lost or stolen items or vehicles. Security will be offered on a “best efforts” basis in the parking area and camps.
- No modern camping will be available on site. You may stay in your RV in the parking area, but no fires or fire pits are allowed in the parking area. Also, no tent camping is allowed in the parking area. Hook ups for RV's will not be available.
OFF FIELD RULES & GUIDELINES
- All battlefield participants will be affiliated with a unit present at the event. Independent participants acting on their own will not be tolerated and will be removed from the field. All participants will follow reasonable orders given by their respective officers.
- IMPRESSIONS. Authorized impressions are South Carolina Militia, Confederate Units, Federal Units, and the everyday citizens who were present in South Carolina in 1865. No specialty impressions are authorized - general officers, vivandieres, etc. The only person authorized to approve any specialty impression will be the Event Coordinator.
- OFFICERS & RANK. All Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers are responsible for the conduct of the troops under their command; are to see that the troops are properly drilled, kept informed of the rules, regulations, and other matters. Unless requested by the Event Coordinator no participant shall wear any rank higher than that of a Captain; any person wearing rank of any kind will be expected to have the requisite number of troops under their command to warrant such rank.
- UNIFORM, CLOTHING & EQUIPMENT. All clothing and equipment should be of period materials, patterns, and construction for February 1865. All items should be either original or correct reproductions of period items. Modern glasses, cigarette lighters, modern tobacco, wrist watches, cell phones, etc., are unacceptable. The uniform standards will be strictly enforced; any non-period items will need to be removed prior to the event. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Event Coordinator.
- All uniform guidelines & standards will be enforced. Make sure your kit is squared away prior to arrival, and that all questions are asked beforehand. Any non-period items will be requested to be removed.
- COLORS (FLAGS). Unit colors must be of the correct size and construction; and will be carried during battle scenarios only with the approval of Event Coordinator.
- WEAPONS. Only weapons of the proper construction of the period will be permitted. Any post-1865 weapons, including Rifles, Carbines, Shotguns, Hawkins Rifles, musketons, carbines, or hunting weapons are strictly prohibited. Pistols are only to be carried by commissioned officers; any person authorized to carry a pistol shall carry no more than two (2) at one time. Only commissioned officers are authorized to carry any type of sword, which is to be of the proper pattern. Enlisted men will be permitted to carry sheathed knives or pocketknives of the proper style. However, no sheathed knives will be allowed on the field. Bayonets/Bladed Weapons will not be affixed to rifles except for approved and controlled scenarios; and are to be kept in their proper scabbards. Under no circumstances will combatants come to close quarters with fixed bayonets.
- CAMPS. Company commanders are to ensure that their camps are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion; regular police details will ensure that trash and other debris is properly disposed of. Although allowed in camp, any, and all, modern items should be kept out of view from public view.
- TRASH. Collect all trash at the end of the event and place it at registration for pick up.
- FIRES. Campfires will be attended at all times; with commanders assigning a fire watch for those still burning at the time of battle. Firepits should be extinguished and covered prior to leaving the event.
- FEMALE SOLDIERS. Women may portray combatants with the approval of their immediate commanders. Every reasonable effort must be made to disguise their gender. If discovered as a female, they will be discharged from service as was the practice of the period.
- CAVALRY & HORSEDRAWN ARTILLERY. All participants bringing horses and/or mules will be required to present a valid Coggins test (within one year). Papers must be verified by the event coordinators. Horses and/or mules arriving without proper paperwork will not be allowed on the premises.
ON FIELD RULES & GUIDELINES
- No Reenactor will allow any spectator to handle or fire a loaded weapon during the weekend.
- During the event, spectators are not allowed to ride or sit on any horse, mule or other animal.
- DRILL & SAFETY INSPECTIONS. All persons taking part in any battle/demonstration will be required to undergo regular, and random, safety inspections, and drill with a unit, who agree to assume responsibility for that individual; participants failing to take part in drills/ inspections will not be allowed on the field.
- WEAPONS INSPECTION. Event Safety Officers and Company Commanders will ensure that a proper weapons inspection is conducted prior to any activity. Any participant's weapon failing to pass inspection will not be permitted to take the field. In addition to inspecting weapons, the inspectors will also conduct a check of cartridge boxes, cap boxes, and canteens.
- CANTEENS. Canteens will be carried on the field and will be full of water; they will be checked before leaving for the field by officers and non-commissioned officers.
- RAMRODS. Ramrods may be carried on the field, unless otherwise prohibited, but at no time will a Ramrod be drawn on the Battlefield, unless done so by the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer.
- HAND-TO-HAND. At no point during the engagement should any participant be engaged in Hand-to-Hand combat unless it has been properly scripted out before the engagement.
